Ambassador Michael Kirby spoke about relations between the United States and Moldova and his experiences in Moldova on Pro-TV’s "In Profunzime" show June 2nd. As he nears the end of his mission in Moldova, Ambassador Kirby reiterated the support of the U.S. Government for a continued agenda of reform in Moldova.
The Ambassador stressed that advancing economic reform will help attract investment and open new jobs in Moldova, thus offering new opportunities for its citizens to build a life here. A healthy economic growth, however, is impossible without a clear set of rules ensured by an effective and fair legal system and by regular societal checks on behalf of the media. Thus democratic reform is critical for a country’s development.
Answering questions from the show host Lorena Bogza, Ambassador Kirby affirmed America’s support for the efforts to resolve the Transnistrian issue and reintegrate Moldova, and hailed Chisinau’s declared European future.
