Four countries have given humanitarian aid to people hurt by the recent flood in Moldova, said Moldova Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Stepanyuk.
"We have received pumps and electric generators from the Czech Republic, food, laundry powder, and sanitation equipment from Turkey, and medicines and food from Austria. Last night we received the first aid from Russia - pumps, clothes, bed linen, etc.," said Stepanyuk. He added that the rest of the cargo is expected on Tuesday.
Some 520 families in the northern part of Moldova received some 15 tonnes of humanitarian aid from the state and NGOs. "On Tuesday, aid will be distributed in the southern regions of the country [], where the water levels are still high," the deputy prime minister said.
Last week, the Prut and Dniester rivers burst their and many populated areas were flooded. As a result of the calamity, over 5,000 people were evacuated and over 1,000 buildings were flooded, of which at least 100 were fully destroyed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will allocate 1,966,500 kroons worth of humanitarian aid to Ukraine and to Moldova in order to liquidate the consequences of floods and help those who suffered from them, writes Äripäev.ee.
Minister of foreign affairs Urmas Paet noted that a number of persons have died from the catastrophic floods in Ukraine and in Moldova and dozens of thousands of residents have been forced to leave their homes. “Estonia will help relieve the situation for the victims of floods in order to improve their options for returning to normal life,” said the minister.
The Czech Republic will send humanitarian aid to Ukraine and Moldova hit by the recent disastrous floods, the Czech Fire Brigade told CTK today.
Each of the countries will receive aid worth one million crowns.
The Czechs have already provided humanitarian aid for flood-hit Slovakia and Romania.
The Czech firefighters left for Ukraine today, taking six pumps, 500 inflatable beds, 500 sleeping bags and 240 emergency packages with garments to Ukraine.
Another 10 pumps, six electric generators and 500 pairs of rubber boots will be sent to Moldova.
The Charita (Charity) CR association sent 70 dryers to the flooded municipalities in Slovakia and launched a public fund- raising campaign for the flood-hit Slovak regions.
The People in Need humanitarian organization also sent dryers to Slovakia.
Romania received 12 electric generators from the Czech Republic on Friday.
Western Ukraine was hit by the worst flooding in the past 100 years that claimed 26 lives. Over 40,000 houses, thousands of kilometres of roads, hundreds of bridges and electric wires were destroyed. Tens of thousands of people lost their homes.
Kiev estimated the damage at an equivalent of 12 billion crowns.
The recent floods also afflicted Romania where it claimed five lives, and the neighbouring Slovakia where two people died in the swollen rivers.
